I was born in Guatemala but grew up between there and Miami, Florida. I first started diving in 1991 when I was just twelve years old. When I graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Business Administration, I decided it was time to make diving something more than just a hobby. In the summer of 2003, my father’s graduation gift was a 2 week trip to Utila, Honduras to complete my PADI instructor course. Those 2 weeks turned into a lot longer and since then, I have been working in diving full time as an instructor, guide, and manager. I have been fortunate enough to travel the world seeing what it looks like from a fish’s point of view.
I hope you enjoy Blue Life as much as I have enjoyed building it for you.
In 2007, while living on Utila, I began Technical Diver and quickly fell in love with the new challenges it brought me. Over the next year, I worked on my getting Trimix instructor rating, having some incredible experiences along the way. Deep diving was for me.
In November 2009, I decided to participate in Cave Diver training. It was the most challenging course I had ever completed. I wrote some quick notes during my cave training to document the powerful emotions that I was experiencing during it. You can find them, unedited, here: www.facebook.com/scubafrank/notes. The entire experience was life changing. Since then, I have been working and training to evolve as a Cave and Technical diver, instructor, and explorer. Although I love to teach diving, there is no better feeling than putting line into unexplored cave and seeing where it takes me.
A few weeks after my cave course, the idea for Blue Life was born. My father came up with the name for the company while we were standing on a hilltop in Roatan overlooking a golf course and the ocean. Somebody walked by and said, “aahhh the green life” and he replied, “no, the blue life.” Over the next three years, Blue Life’s growth was steady and slow. I wanted to make sure we got things done correctly from the beginning.
After countless hours and tireless efforts, things started coming together in 2012. The support and motivation that my family and friends have given me this little cave diving operation into something much bigger. In May 2013, I decided to show the world Blue Life. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed building it for you.
